 Ava Harding is a born and bred Aussie girl. She was brought into the world in Sydney, Australia, though her parents moved to the Gold Coast when she was just three years old when her father, who was a professional surfer, wanted to live closer to the beach. Because of this, Ava grew up with the beach in her blood and it wasn't a surprise when she wanted to start surfing like her dad from a very young age and she has done it for pleasure her whole life. However, she had no intentions of becoming professional with it. After losing her beloved grandmother to breast cancer when Ava was fifteen, she took a keen interest in wanting to become a doctor to help people like her grandma. She always had good grades at school, but with a bit more focus and determination with ambition under her belt, Ava nailed her Higher School certificate and topped her grades. Ava's mother, however, was a natural-born America and being a nurse, met her father in a California hospital when he injured himself on surfing circuit. They joke that it was love at first sight, and it wasn't far off. They had a quickie wedding and Ava arrived shortly later after the new Mrs Harding moved to Australia with her husband. It was because of this that Ava applied for scholarships to med schools in America, as well as the standard options in Australia, and was over the moon when she was accepted into Florida State University medical college. There was no question she would go. Florida near the beach and in America. She thrived on it, and soon graduated with her MD and entered a the field of Oncology as a speciality, gaining an internship at H. Ava had always know from her mid-teens that she liked girls more than boys. She had a pile of male friends, but sexually and romantically, girls just seemed to do it more for her. She was fortunate to have grown up in an accepting environment and when she told her family and friends, it was no huge deal. She had a couple of gay friends who helped her find her feet with coming out, and she has owned her sexuality ever since. It was when Ava came across a gorgeous Latino girl sitting out ont he steps of the hospital one day crying her eyes out with no one even there to offer her Kleenex, that Ava's life changed. Santana Lopez ( ![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png){kind=small} have2justbeme) was at the center to visit her ill aunt, a close and beloved sister to her mother, and who had just passed away from cancer. She was crushed, and Ava couldn't just let her sit there alone. She sat down with her, and next thing they knew, they were having a heart to heart about Santana's struggle with her sexuality when she was younger, and how her grandmother never approved and had just completely snubbed her in the hospital hall, even despite the family tragedy.Ava's heart went out to her, and they kept in touch after that, with Ava being a sounding board for Santana to chat to, who was had just recently broken up with her high school sweetheart. They hit it off, and more than Ava had ever hit it off with any girl in her life. One thing really did lead to another and they eventually started a romantic relationship with Santana deciding to move up from Mexico where she had been living with relatives after high school to live with Ava. Just like Ava's parents, it was a little bit of a whirlwind romance, and when Ava was offered an Oncology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, the couple took it as a kismet sign that maybe they should bite the bullet and get hitched in the state that allowed same-sex marriages. It was a sweet little ceremony at City Hall, and very spur of the moment one day when they were apartment hunting. Just their parents and Ava's two older brothers were present, and they couldn't be happier. They have now come to settle in New York, and Ava has been in her new job for three weeks now and just beginning her own patient workload but what neither of the girls realise is that it's one of her new patients that is about to throw Santana's life upside down all over again. {DISCLAIMER} Ava is an ORIGINAL CHARACTER written loosely in the Glee fandom, though for post-canon verses only.
